One of the first three departments established in the University, the Department of Mechanical Engineering offers programs of study leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Science -B.S., Master of Science -M.S., and Doctor of Philosophy -Ph.D., supported by well equipped laboratories and workshop facilities. The undergraduate program is designed to provide basic mechanical engineering training upon which self learning, further studies and engineering practice can be built. The program includes various courses covering basic subjects in thermal and fluid science, mechanics, machine design and production engineering supplemented by a wide range of specialized senior year technical electives. Graduate research in the Department is conducted primarily in the areas of thermal-fluid science, mechanics, machine design and manufacturing. Current research
interests of the faculty include internal combustion engines,
modeling of engine processes, combustion modeling in combustion
chambers, simulation studies of low-heat projection metallic and
ceramic engines, simulation studies of different compound engine
schemes, computer modeling of general thermodynamic systems; solar
air heaters, solar ponds; CFD; heat transfer and fluid mechanics,
natural and mixed convection, convection in porous media,
radioactive heat transfer, combustion in porous media, two-phase
flow heat exchangers, turbulence research; boundary layer studies,
wake flows, fluidics, thin film ceramics; thermo elasticity; thermo
elasticity in hot cylindrical shells, materials engineering;
high-temperature materials, creep-resistance materials, super
alloys, creep fracture, materials characterization, directional
solidification techniques -AISI, AICU eutectic alloys, fracture
mechanics, stress analysis and design, integral estimation,
resistance curves, manufacturing technology, casting technology,
aero engine turbine blades; fracture mechanics, and computer
integrated manufacturing. |
