Design projects and hands-on experience are vital pillars of a comprehensive BS Mechanical Engineering curriculum. They serve as the practical embodiment of theoretical knowledge, transforming abstract concepts into tangible solutions. Through these immersive experiences, students develop critical engineering skills such as problem-solving, innovation, and systems thinking. Collaborative design work fosters communication and teamwork, mirroring the interdisciplinary nature of real-world engineering environments. Moreover, engaging in the design process—from ideation to prototyping and testing—cultivates a deeper understanding of engineering principles and prepares students to navigate complex challenges in industry and research with confidence and competence. The Design Week organised by the Mechanical Engineering Department in academic semester Spring 2024-2025 was a great success! Our students from both mechanical and mechatronics engineering programs presented their projects and prototypes in a range of events including Development of Low-Cost Human Powered Vehicles, PV/Solar Thermal Collector System Design, Vibration Design and Analysis of Beams, and Design of Mechanisms. The TEKNOFEST award winning team presented their Hybrid Mobility Robot for Smart Agriculture project. Our final year students also presented and demonstrated their Capstone Design Projects to the juries. The high honour and honour certificates were also awarded to the respective students during the Design Week Spring 2024-25.
