Design Week Fall 2025-26

Engineering Design is a systematic, iterative process through which engineers identify needs or problems and develop practical, safe, efficient, and economical solutions by applying scientific principles, mathematical analysis, engineering judgment, and creativity. It involves defining requirements and constraints, generating and evaluating alternative concepts, modeling and analysis, prototyping, testing, and refinement, while considering factors such as functionality, manufacturability, sustainability, ethics, safety, and cost.

Engineering Design projects and hands-on learning are integral pillars of the ABET accredited BS Mechanical and BS Mechatronics Engineering program curriculum. These projects bridge the gap between theoretical foundations and real-world engineering practice, enabling students to apply core principles in meaningful, practical contexts. Through these experiences, students cultivate essential professional skills such as analytical problem-solving, creativity, innovation, and teamwork.

This Fall, the Mechanical Engineering Department will proudly continue its tradition of organizing Design Week, uniting students from the Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering programs to showcase their innovative design projects and functional prototypes. The event will highlight a diverse portfolio of engineering activities, including the Design and Development of Spiral Robotic Arms, Vibration Design and Analysis of Beams, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems and the Design and Development of Recumbent Human-Powered Trikes, reflecting both technical rigor and creative problem-solving.

In addition, final-year students will present and demonstrate their Capstone Design Projects before academic and industry juries, highlighting their readiness for professional engineering practice. To recognize excellence and achievement, High Honor and Honor Certificates will be awarded to deserving students during Design Week, Fall 2025–26.
